Resolute Action & The Real Sea Patrol

Minor War Vessel Concentration Period

“Following Kerr down to the water’s edge, Ryan found himself looking at six Armidale class patrol boats tied up in pairs, along a long dock that had been built inside a large crescent breakwater.” – Armidale class patrol boats at HMAS Coonawarra, Darwin.

If you’ve read my latest book Resolute Action you will know that part of the book is set aboard the fictional HMAS Woronora,  an Armidale class patrol boat (ACPB) operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). I recently came across this short film produced by the RAN titled, The Real Sea Patrol which shows what life is like on board a real ACPB, the HMAS Larrakia with the crew of Attack Four.  The video was quite obviously produced as a recruitment tool, but it gives great insight into how these crews actually operate at sea, and also provides a good picture of the joint work conducted by the RAN and the officers of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority.  If you’ve read my book you’ll know the relevance of this last reference.  If not, well, you’ll just have to get reading as I’m not about to tell you.
